Why do I love Oakland?
I love Oakland because of moments like this, last thursday about 4:45pm: as Marcos Lafarga and I were hanging his show “Design is Dead” at Zza’s Wine Bar, Katie, the manager was practicing her singing with Oliver on his melodica (a wierd instrument between a recorder and a keyboard) and the light coming in off the lake was so beautiful. It could have been Amsterdam or Venice. The show went great, we had the reception friday night. It was the fifth show I have curated at Zzas and our first to coincide with First Friday; we really didn’t mean it to, it just happened. I think our numbers kinda suffered for it…that and the first rain, but we all had a good time anyway. It really is a triumphant show. The stark, amusing and graphic quality of the white paintings really opens up the space. Well done Marcos and thank you Zzas.
